Over the past 40 years that I’ve been a serious guitarist, I have been well aware of the music of the great Chet Atkins. In May of 2014, I randomly became completely obsessed with his playing style! Staying up until 3am every night practicing this new approach to the guitar, I now feel like I have something worth sharing. Look for more upcoming videos featuring this guitar style in 2015!
This arrangement of the Christmas classic Jingle Bells is in the Chet Atkins guitar style: the right hand thumb plays the bass and rhythm function while the remaining fingers play melodies and additional harmony. I’ve patterned this arrangement after Tommy Emmanuel & John Knowles’ lovely version which employs some beautiful reharmonization and clever key changes.
